The Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University was established in 1982 through a beneficent gift from Buell, along with the Kaplan Foundation and Phyllis Lambert. The Buell Center's founding director was Robert A. M. Stern. Buell Hall at the university is named for him.

Buell Hall is an academic building on the Morningside Heights campus of Columbia University in New York City.Built in 1885 as Macy Villa, it is the oldest building on Columbia's campus, and the last remaining building at Columbia which dates back to the Bloomingdale Insane Asylum, on whose grounds the university is now located.

The one-story building now known as the Kenney Gym Annex, the easternmost of the two structures, was built in 1889-90 as the Military Drill Hall and was designed by Nathan Clifford Ricker. The interior was converted for use as a gymnasium in 1914, at which time it became known as the Annex to the Men's Gym building next to it.
