The April 1957 Official Airline Guide shows 316 weekday departures: 95 Eastern (plus six per week to/from South America), 77 American, 61 Capital, 23 National, 17 TWA, 10 United, 10 Delta, 6 Allegheny, 6 Braniff, 5 Piedmont, 3 Northeast and 3 Northwest. Jet flights began in April 1966 (727-200s were not allowed until 1970). [20]
In 1998, the county renamed it Hagerstown Regional Airport - Richard A. Henson Field. [6] Subsidiaries of US Airways Express had served Hagerstown Regional Airport for some time. The airport lost eligibility for Essential Air Service funding on October 1, 2007, because it was located less than 70 miles (110 km) from a larger airport. [8]
BWI Airport became the responsibility of the MAA in 1972 when the State of Maryland purchased the airport from the city of Baltimore for $36 million. [4] Previously known as Friendship International Airport, the airport was renamed Baltimore/Washington International Airport in 1973, then BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport on October 1, 2005.
