The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is a selective and prestigious 15-question 3-hour test given since 1983 to those who rank in the top 5% on the AMC 12 high school mathematics examination (formerly known as the AHSME), and starting in 2010, those who rank in the top 2.5% on the AMC 10.
Qualification for recognition is based on the student's combined verbal, math, and writing skill scores on the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the student's junior year of high school. PSAT score cutoffs vary each year by state, but typically range in the high 180s and low 190s. Students must also self-identify as Hispanic on the PSAT/NMSQT.
College Board is set to release scores for the PSAT in three increments on Oct. 24, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14.
The 9th-grade SHSAT cut-off scores tend to be much higher due to limited seats for incoming 10th-graders in the schools. Some schools, such as Stuyvesant and Bronx Science, may only have 3-10 seats each year for incoming 10th graders, while Brooklyn Technical High School, being the school with the most students, may only have around 20-30 seats.

The cutoff scores for each group are not entirely rigid, as some students are moved between groups at the beginning of the program. However, the cutoffs do dictate who is invited to the program. More information can be founded in the Selection Process section above.
