  4. AF Form 174 Question : r/AirForce - Reddit

Tech school instructors use the AF 174 form to record academic failures and related verbal counseling. For us it's basically the lowest level of administrative action, even lower than a LOC. IE: Student fails a block quiz, we fill out a 174.

  5. What the hell do I do with an RIC? : r/AirForce - Reddit

The AF 174 RIC. It is less than an LOC, but has a spot for a commander's signature? Can I drop it in the PIF without my CC signature or should I just do an MFR? Amn Snuffy was smoking in the shop (okay, vaping, but it is the same in the AFI).

AF Form 174, Record of Individual Counseling, records the counseling session. It provides a record of positive or negative counseling and is useful when completing performance evaluations. Documenting counseling sessions on bond paper or letterhead constitutes a LOC.

The 174 is important because it is the foundation of a paper trail. Those fancy little MFR's don't mean jack diddly for discharge or action against the member. If you are wanting to establish a factual paper trail to show progressive punishment, start with 174's and work your way up.

  10. Need help creating a counseling statement : r/AirForce - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/AirForce/comments/qjzdi7/need_help_creating_a_counseling...

The AF has a form pretty similar to a counseling statement. It’s an AF IMT 174, Record of Individual Counseling. If your troops have already been verbally warned, in my opinion as an NCO it’s time to start dropping paperwork and action plans. There’s no gray area in trashing a government vehicle and they were lucky to get a warning.

The other part of this is that MFR, AF Form 174's, and LOC's really don't matter. From a legal perspective, all that really matters is LORs or greater. You can hand over 6k verbals and 82 LOCs and legal may still deadpan you and let you know "If it was actually an issue, you'd have written LORs." Unfortunate, but this is the case in my experience.
