Posted August 21, 2013. Greetings, Just finished designing a couple of cross draw knife sheaths for a Buck 119 and was looking for some input on them. Essentially I took the basic cross draw designs I've found and added a swell to the bottom of the sheath. A spacer piece of leather is stitched between the edges to protect the rivets and ...
Posted July 7, 2016. Here's my pattern that I used to make the one in the post that was linked above. When I made mine I used two layers of 4-6 oz leather so I had a finished surface on the inside and out. Where the two rivets go I cut small pieces of delrin tubing so the blade didn't ride against the metal rivets.
Oct 20, 2014. #3. Hey Chris this style of sheath is often referred to as a Pancake sheath. Very popular in holsters too for toting around handguns. I thinnk it got its name from the fact that it lies flat against you like a pancake. Most are made a little differently than the one you pictured.
My recommendation would be for a 45 degree horizontal right hand sheath worn at about 10 o'clock on the left front body, for right hand draw. (cross draw) It's out of the way sitting or standing, at least as easy access, and MUCH easier to re-sheath one handed. In either case I think trying to modify the original sheath would be almost an ...
Hello guys Possibly it sounds stupid, but I would like to ask as follows: if I carry a knife in a cross draw sheath, doesn't that mean that the edge is getting dull earlier as in an usual sheath? I think nearly the whole weight of the knife lies on the edge, and each rattling will rub it...
When I gave him the bag he gave me his knife and asked me to make a sheath for it as well. That was in April and I finally got it done! I like making a cross draw sheath for long knives and this one will fit a 3" belt. The core of the sheath is vegetable tanned cowhide. The tan leather is elk hide and the reddish-brown leather is caiman.
Fabrication. Patterns and Templates. My quick draw knife sheath pattern. Heres my pattern that I used to make the one I posted in the show off section years ago. When I made mine I used two layers of 4-6 oz leather so I had a finished surface on the inside and out. Where the two rivets go I cut small pieces of delrin tubing so the blade didnt ...
461. Jun 23, 2013. #3. SaintlyBrees said: I have a custom made cross draw for my 110 and I like it quite a bit. I would suspect that it depends on design, but mine holds the knife in securely and is fairly easy to remove. I'm sure that some work better than others. By the way, the newer nylon sheaths (not sure about older models) from Buck can ...
Little cross draw sheath I made for myself! The knife was a gift from my wife and custom made by a friend. I believe he buys the Damascus blades "pre-made" but the handle is all him. The inlay is our brand. For the sheath I used 8 oz HO. It has a full welt around the knife which has been skived from full thickness to nothing at the outer edge.
Aug 12, 2023. #1. I have a vertical draw leather knife sheath that I would really like to be a cross draw style sheath. The sheath is 9 1/2 “ long x 3 “ wide. I am looking for advice and ideas as to how I can add a wide loop to the sheath, essentially making it both cross and vertical draw. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
