Narrowing down my top 10 wasn’t hard, but I found it surprisingly difficult to pick my number one Rush track. It finally came down to Red Barchetta because the combination of great musicianship, a fantastic story, and all the grandeur of their previous progressive epics compressed into a tight six minute song makes for quintessential Rush.

listening to Red Barchetta and just realized something extremely sad. it's coming true. The Motor Law in the song is about the overregulation of vehicle safety standards to the point of making them huge hulking bumper cars, not the death of the petrol-based engine. The only part that is coming true is that I drink by the fireside.

I know "Red Barchetta" mentions a "country place," but did Rush have any particular location in mind when they wrote the song? My guess would be somewhere around Stony Lake, northeast of Peterborough, where the band started their work on "Moving Pictures," but does anyone know anything in particular? Sort by:
Red Barchetta has been one of my favorite Rush songs since I can remember. I can remember laying on my bed with my big Sears sponge headphones listening to moving pictures and visualizing everything in that particular song.
