I do have leg curl and leg extension as well as lots of dumbbells for squats and lunges. is this enough? I do all of the above but no leg press am i missing something? P.S. I am female.
A Leg Press is a Leg Press. There are other leg exercises you can perform though, such as BB and DB Lunges of all types (side, in-place, reverse, stationary, walking), Barbell Hack Squats, BB and DB Bulgarian Split Squats, and, with a sturdy store-bought or homemade box, BB and DB Step-ups.

A stiff legged deadlift/romanian deadlift is about the best thing for improving hamstring flexibility. I would advise that unless something is badly wrong then stick with it and focus not on the amount of weight but on the stretch. A good morning may be a less painfull alternative. 07-06-2009, 07:27 AM #29. blast00.
I'm following Vikings 3 day full body routine. I don't have a leg press at home so I've been doing lunges. They were working fine but I've noticed they wear me out a lot more than a leg press would. Also - They work my upper body a bit which may be interfering with other exercises. Any Suggestions?
My prefference would be that if I couldn't afford a very nice unit I wouldn't buy one at all. A leg press is a substantial investment for the home gym so take your time a choose wisely. "Pain is a state of MIND -. - Mass is a state of BEING". This one is my own. 09-09-2003, 02:02 PM #4. keperkey.
I do the dumbbell press. It doesn't cause me any issues or pain. The problem is, I only have adjustable, spin lock type dumbbells, so when I try to place the dumbbells on my thighs to lift them into the position, the end of the dumbbell handle pokes and digs into my leg, so I am limited to how much weight I can lift into position.
Bring back one leg up towards your butt, heel up, while keeping your other leg relatively straight. Then push off with your toe on the leg that is curled up towards your butt. This is another great exercise for rehab purposes but can also be used as a substitute to leg extensions.
No it doesnt have a power rack. It has a 4 sided piece of equipment for various different rope and pulley exercises, 2 plain old benchs and a few machines, leg press, leg extension, leg curl, chest press, shoulder press. It is a bit limited but I live in the middle of nowhere and that's what I've got to work with.
Rep Power: 454. True. Leg presses are more of a mass builder than leg extensions. Leg presses emphasize the vastus medialis (teardrop portion of the quadriceps) while leg extensions add definition and shape to the quads. This can be done best by doing them slowly and with a peak contraction at the top of the movement.
