[1] [2] [3] The service features original movies and television series aimed at African American audiences, including live stand-up performances, documentaries and reality series, and stage plays. Video Soul premiered on June 26, 1981 and was originally a half-hour show. The show was created after MTV refused to play videos by most African-American musicians, [7] as MTV made the de facto color policy effective.
