Epiphone (/ ˌ ɛ. p ə. f oʊ n /) is an American musical instrument brand that traces its roots to a musical instrument manufacturing business founded in 1873 by Anastasios Stathopoulos in İzmir, Ottoman Empire, and moved to New York City in 1908.
In 1969 and 1970, the headstock was replaced with a slotted one (similar to those on most classical guitars), with tuning keys mounted at ninety degrees downwards behind the head. Between 1962 and 1965, Gibson produced a more expensive version called the Gibson EB-0F , which while superficially near identical, bar a longer pickguard also ...
The EB-1 had a solid mahogany body finished with a brown stain, and a raised pickguard, which was originally colored brown to more closely match the color of the body. It had a 30.5" scale [1] set neck—rather than the 34" scale of the Fender Precision Bass or the 41.5" scale of the 3/4-sized upright bass favored by many upright bassists of the time.
The guitars were finished in "government grey" and also featured decorations which intended to draw attention to the issue of government. A year later in 2014, Gibson released the Government Series II [101] of guitars, which were essentially the same as the first series, only finished in a new color: "government tan".
Introduced in 1958, the EB-2 was the bass guitar equivalent of the popular Gibson ES-335. It featured a 335-style semi-hollow body, a short 30.5" scale neck and one large "Sidewinder" humbucking pickup in the neck position. The electronics consisted of a single volume and tone knob. The EB-2N had natural finish, the EB-2 sunburst.
In 2011, Epiphone created a limited edition signature model Epiphone Allen Woody Thunderbird bass. Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith was known to use a white Gibson Thunderbird bass from 1973 to early 1977, rotating between the Thunderbird, a Fender Jazz Bass and a Fender Precision Bass , before switching to the recently introduced Music Man StingRay ...
Models include the solid body ET series (Crestwood) the SC series (Scroll) and the Model 1140 (Flying V) as well as Epiphone's archtop electric guitars: 5102T/EA-250, Sheraton, Riviera, Casino, and Emperor. Early Matsumoku made Epiphone archtops and hollow-body basses had four-point bolt on necks.
In the July 1, 1980 catalog, the Standard model became available in dark sunburst, and an entry-level Genesis model and 4-string Genesis Bass guitar were offered.
