Cortlandt is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States, located at the northwestern edge of the county, at the eastern terminus of the Bear Mountain Bridge. As of the 2020 census, the population was 42,545. The town includes the villages of Buchanan and Croton-on-Hudson.

Buchanan is a village located in the town of Cortlandt in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 2,230 as of the 2010 census. The western town line is the border of Tompkins County. Interstate 81, U.S. Route 11, and New York State Route 281 are north-south highways. New York State Route 41 and New York State Route 222 are east-west highways, but NY-41 turns northward from Cortland. New York State Route 13 is a northeast-southwest highway.
The city is within the former Central New York Military Tract. It is named after Pierre Van Cortlandt, the first lieutenant governor of New York.
