Avoid cluttering the first sentence with a long parenthetical containing items like alternative spellings and pronunciations: these can make the sentence difficult to read.
When I've been using "relevance" I've been including the concept of being relevant to the nature of an a encyclopedic article--not merely relevant to the subject. If we want to make the above differentiation, then I suppose what I mean could also be called "appropriate" -- and its guidelines for that which i think Equazcion and I have in mind here.
