Escaflowne (Japanese: エスカフローネ, Hepburn: Esukafurōne) is a 2000 Japanese animated adventure dark fantasy [2] film produced by Sunrise and animated by studio Bones. Directed by Kazuki Akane , the film is a re-telling of the 26-episode anime television series The Vision of Escaflowne .
The English dub of the film was produced by Streamline Pictures. During the early-to-mid 1990s, the film was shown frequently on Turner Broadcasting stations such as TBS, TNT, and Cartoon Network, often paired with Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival. As a result, it was one of the first exposures to anime for many American anime fans.
The Japanese opening and closing themes, "Get UP ~Aio Shinjite~ (Get UP ~I Believe in Love~)" and "Chikyuu No Ko (地球の子 lit. "Child of the Earth") are sung by the Japanese vocalists Toshiya Igarashi and Shiori Hashimoto respectively. Music from the Japanese version of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics was recycled for the anime.
