John Weldon "J. J." Cale [1] (December 5, 1938 – July 26, 2013) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Though he avoided the limelight, [2] his influence as a musical artist has been acknowledged by figures such as Neil Young, Mark Knopfler, Waylon Jennings, and Eric Clapton, who described him as one of the most important artists in rock history. Even the straight love song “Wish I Had Not Said That” has an inherent ambivalence in the title, despite the tenderness found in the lyrics. “Pack My Jack” recalls earlier Cale songs like “Travelin’ Light” and “I’m a Gypsy Man” and speaks to the freedom of the highway and how “a ramblin’ man keeps ramblin’ on.”
Rewind: The Unreleased Recordings is a compilation (studio) album by JJ Cale.It was released in October 2007. This album contains unreleased tracks recorded between 1971 and 1993 (most were cut with a band between 1973 and 1982).
