Lieutenant General Sir John Dudley Lavarack, KCMG, KCVO, KBE, CB, DSO (19 December 1885 – 4 December 1957) was an Australian Army officer who was Governor of Queensland from 1 October 1946 to 4 December 1957, the first Australian-born governor of that state.

On 28 May 1956, the Governor, Sir John Lavarack, designated 11 principal executive offices of the Government and appointed the following Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland to the Ministry as follows. It represented a reshuffle of the Ministry, with some portfolios being transferred and Foley being demoted.
Approval for the formation of the new division was granted on 28 February 1940 and on 4 April its first commanding officer, Major General John Lavarack, was appointed. In 1939, the Queensland Parliament created a Trust [12] and ownership was transferred to the Newstead House Trust. The building was occupied by American troops during World War II. The 4th Field Regiment was raised at Wacol on 4 May 1960, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel John Studdert. [2] [3] It was the first major Regular Army unit to be raised in Queensland. [4] The regiment moved to Lavarack Barracks in 1968. [4]
