Synth-pop is stiffer and has more focus on synthetic sounds combined with pop, like 80's Depeche Mode or Pet Shop Boys, and is a sub genre of new wave rather than an evolution of disco, that is the case with dance-pop and in my opinion with Sia's both soft and groovy pop-song Cheap Thrills.
