Lake Moondarra is an artificial lake on the Leichhardt River in Queensland, Australia, 16 km downstream from the town of Mount Isa. It provides water to the city and the adjacent Mount Isa Mines (MIM) mining lease. The dam was built for Mount Isa Mines and, at the time, was the largest water scheme in Australia financed by private enterprise. [1]
The river is dammed near Mount Isa to form Lake Moondarra. Other storage facilities in the catchment include Julius Dam, East Leichhardt Dam and Rifle Creek Dam. [3] Around 50 kilometres (31 mi) upstream from its mouth are the Leichhardt Falls. As well as Mount Isa, the small community of Kajabbi is located on the river.
The Mount Isa parkrun is a 5 km run in Mount Isa. It starts at 7am every Saturday and is free. The event started in 2018 and has attracted tourists from across Queensland and more. The event starts at Tharrapatha Way. As at April 2018, the largest attendance is 102. The event caters for all types of runners of all standards. [70]
The shape of the locality can be loosely be described as a doughnut where the "hole" is the excluded urban area of Mount Isa, consisting of the suburbs (from north to south): Kalkadoon, Lanskey, Ryan, Soldiers Hill, Winston, Sunset, Menzies, Pioneer, Miles End, Fisher, The Gap, Mount Isa City, Breakaway, Townview, Parkside, Mornington, Healy, Happy Valley, Mica Creek and Spreadborough.

The Mount Isa City Council operates a Civic Centre including a public library and park at 23 West Street It is officially within Miles End but can only be accessed from Mount Isa City as this area is on the eastern side of the Leichhardt River, while the rest of the suburb is on the western side.
The Leichhardt River flows north-south through the town of Mount Isa, dividing the suburbs of the town into "mineside" (west of the Leichhardt River) and "townside" (east of the Leichhardt River).
