Robert Stigwood, who at the time was the Bee Gees' manager, signed Gibb to his label, RSO Records in early 1976, after he heard some of his demo tapes. Gibb soon moved to Miami Beach, to begin working on songs with his brother Barry and co-producers Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson.
The content of the show consisted chiefly of songs that had been hit singles plus songs from the recent hit albums Main Course and Children of the World. There was also a rendition of "Down the Road" from the more obscure 1974 album Mr. Natural. The album was originally released as a 2 part LP record and was later released as a 2-disc CD in 1990.
The band took a hiatus in 1977 after three of its members, including singer Ronnie Van Zant, died in a plane crash. In 1987, Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed as a tribute tour to prompt the band's rebirth.
(Barry Gibb, 78, is the only surviving family member; Maurice Gibb died in 2003 at 53 and Robin died in 2012 at 62. Younger brother Andy Gibb, a teen idol and solo artist, died in 1988 at age 30.)
The Bee Gees version of the song, the first one created, was recorded in 1977 during the sessions for Saturday Night Fever but was not released until the compilation Bee Gees Greatest in 1979.
