A native of New York City, born and raised in The Bronx, Washton began his education in psychology at New York University where he earned a B.A. degree in 1968, followed by an M.A. from Queens College of The City University of New York 1973 and a Ph.D. in psychology from The Graduate School of the City University of New York in 1978.
