The Metropolitan Autonomous University (Spanish: Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana) also known as UAM, is a Mexican public research university. Founded in 1974 with the support of then-President Luis Echeverria Alvarez , the institution aims to be closely linked to the social and human environment.
UAM's Cantoblanco Campus holds most of the university's facilities. It is located 15 km (9.3 mi) north of Madrid and has an extension of over 2,200,000 m 2 (24,000,000 sq ft). Of these, nearly 770,000 m 2 (8,300,000 sq ft) are urbanised and about a third of them garden areas. UAM offers 94 doctorate programs in all of the universities studies.
