Erie County is a county along the shore of Lake Erie in western New York State. As of the 2020 census, the population was 954,236. [1] However, in the 2023 census, the Erie County population was 946,147. [2] The county seat is Buffalo, which makes up about 28% of the county's population. [3]
St. Mary's County has the oldest documented sheriff's office in Maryland and one of the oldest in the United States. [11] In 1637, James Baldridge was appointed sheriff. Since 1776, sheriffs in St. Mary's County have been determined by election. Steven A. Hall is the current sheriff. He was sworn in on December 5, 2022.
