The Daintree National Park is located in Far North Queensland, Australia, 1,757 km (1,092 mi) northwest of Brisbane and 100 km (62 mi) northwest of Cairns. It was founded in 1981 [ 2 ] and is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland .
It is a rare survivor of 120 million years of altered climatic conditions resulting from continental drift, which has reduced the extent of the original forest to a few restricted areas on the east coast. The area includes the Daintree National Park, some areas of State Forest, and some privately owned land, including a residential community.
The river rises on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range within the Daintree National Park below Kalkajaka at an elevation of 1,270 metres (4,170 ft) AHD.The river flows in highly meandering course generally north, then east, then south and then east, through the rainforest where the water is fresh.
Red Mill House, Daintree Village, established in 1993, was the first B&B in the Douglas Shire and paved the way for many others. Queensland's Wet Tropics became world heritage listed in 1986. Daintree is part of the wet tropics and the most famous national park close to the tourism hub of Port Douglas. [7]
