Robinsons Supermarket is a supermarket chain in the Philippines and a division of Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI). It is the second largest supermarket chain in the Philippines with 151 branches (as of 2024) across the country.
Founded by Filipino industrialist John L. Gokongwei, Jr. in 1980, Robinsons Retail started as Robinsons Department Store in Robinsons Place Manila. It expanded into supermarkets in 1985, DIY in 1994, convenience stores and specialty stores in 2000, and drugstores in 2012. Robinsons Retail also launched a chain of community malls in 2015. [4]
Robinsons exited Singapore and Malaysia in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.In August that year, Robinsons announced the closure of its Jurong East Mall outlet, [9] followed by their main outlets at The Heeren and Raffles City on 30 October, ending its 162-year history and joining the list of closures in the city-state, such as Topshop, Hotwind and Esprit Holdings.
The mall features anchors such as Robinsons Supermarket, Department Store, Daiso Japan, Handyman, Robinsons Appliances, and Robinsons Movieworld. Additionally, it boasts a 300-seater, garden-inspired food court and a Lingkod Pinoy Service Center located in the basement level of the mall complex.
Robinsons Malls is one of the largest shopping malls and retail operators in the Philippines. [1] It was incorporated on September 9, 1997, by entrepreneur John Gokongwei Jr. to develop, conduct, operate and maintain the Robinsons commercial shopping centers and all related businesses, such as the lease of commercial spaces within the compound of shopping centers.
Although the mall was owned by Robinsons Land Corporation (the parent of Robinsons Malls), it was operated by Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (whose parent company of several in-house retail stores for each Robinsons Malls such as Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Appliances, Toys-R-Us, and among others).
