In 2017 Ohio State announced plans for the development of a new hospital and several large ambulatory centers. The new medical tower will include more than 800 beds, 60 neonatal intensive care unit bassinets, and state-of-the-art inpatient service areas. University leaders hope the new hospital tower will be completed by 2025. [5]

Lewis Center was founded around 1850 when the railroad was extended to that point. [6] The community was named after the family of William L. Lewis, who gave their land for a railroad station in exchange for the naming rights. [6] A post office called Lewis Centre was established in 1852, and the name was changed to Lewis Center in 1893.
