The Diocese of Brooklyn (Latin: Diœcesis Bruklyniensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in the U.S. state of New York.It is headquartered in Brooklyn and its territory encompasses the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens.
In 1858 Bishop John Loughlin issued an invitation to the Brothers of the monastery in Roundstone, County Galway, to operate schools for the boys of the Diocese of Brooklyn. A group of six Brothers, soon arrived and opened St. Francis Monastery and St. Francis Academy (now the site of St. Francis College), the first Catholic school in Brooklyn.
After establishing the first community of religious Sisters in the diocese in 1817, the Sisters began to staff dozens of parochial schools, the College of Mount St. Vincent, the now-closed Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, the New York Foundling Hospital and former St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in Manhattan and Staten Island.

The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Blaise is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, located at Nostrand Avenue and Lincoln Road, in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn, New York City, New York 11225.
The complex consists of the church, rectory / parsonage, school, and cloister. The church was designed in 1916 by architect Thomas Henry Poole (1860–1919) and completed in 1919. It is a large brick Romanesque-style building in the basilican plan. It features a standing seam copper-roofed dome and a bell tower.
