Voorheesville / ˈ v ɔːr iː z ˌ v ɪ l / is a village within the town of New Scotland in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of Albany and part of the city's historic metropolitan area. The population was 2,841 at the 2020 census. The village is named after a railroad attorney, Alonzo B. Voorhees.
Voorhees was born on August 6, 1794, in Charleston, New York. He moved to Lysander in 1810, where he worked as a farmer and lumberman. He served as town supervisor for many years. [1] In 1830, he unsuccessfully ran for the New York State Assembly as a member of the Anti-Masonic Party.
