Strawn is a city in Palo Pinto County, Texas, United States. The population was 540 at the 2020 census . Strawn, on State Highway 16 and 108 , Farm to Market Road 2372 , and the Missouri Pacific Railroad in southwestern Palo Pinto County, was one of several towns developed about 1880 when the Texas and Pacific Railway began service.
By 1878 Strawn had eight stores, a harness shop, a blacksmith shop, shoe shops, a grain business and a saloon. A Post Office was established in 1873. On July 1, 1873, the railroad station opened for business. On that day, the first item shipped into Strawn arrived: a barrel of meat bound for the boarding house operated by S.K. Mitchell.
Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is an undeveloped 4,000 plus acre [1] state park in Palo Pinto and Stephens County, Texas near the City of Strawn.The park is located in the Western Cross Timbers Ecoregion.
On March 8, 1926, SH 108 was extended north to Strawn, with a branch to Chalk Mountain added. [5] On June 24, 1931, the section south of Strawn was redesignated as the new state-length SH 66, [6] and the rest was cancelled in exchange of mileage. On July 22, 1932, the section of SH 108 from Stephenville to Strawn was restored. [7]
The city of New Strawn came about when John Redmond Reservoir was built in the early 1960s, causing the original town of Strawn to be claimed by the Army Corps of Engineers for flood area. [4] The old city of Strawn is usually available for exploration, but will be underwater if the lake is up.

Strawn Independent School District is a public school district based in Strawn, Texas . The district consists of one campus consisting of grades PK-12. Strawn High School has won five UIL six-man football championships. (2003, 2008, 2017, 2018, and 2021. The 2008 title was in Division I).
