The Year 1812, Solemn Overture, Op. 49, popularly known as the 1812 Overture, [1] is a concert overture in E ♭ major written in 1880 by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The piece commemorates Russia 's successful defense against the French invasion of the nation in 1812.
The track "Remember, Remember" uses the "national anthem" [clarification needed] part of the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky, and "Knives And Bullets (And Cannons Too)" incorporates the piece in its final two minutes. The second track in the ending credits is "BKAB" by independent producer Ethan Stoller.
The William Tell Overture is the overture to the opera William Tell (original French title Guillaume Tell), composed by Gioachino Rossini. William Tell premiered in 1829 and was the last of Rossini's 39 operas, after which he went into semi-retirement (he continued to compose cantatas, sacred music and secular vocal music).
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote many works well-known to the general classical public, including Romeo and Juliet, the 1812 Overture, and the ballets Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. These, along with two of his four concertos, three of his symphonies and two of his ten operas, are among his most familiar works.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture contains a sample of God Save the Tsar!, the national anthem of the Russian Empire. However, during the Soviet era, this part was replaced with a sample of Slavsya. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the sample of the imperial anthem was restored.
