Kal Tire is a wholly owned Canadian company based in Vernon, British Columbia, where it was founded in 1953 by Thomas J. Foord OBC and Jim Lochhead. Prospera Place, formerly known as Skyreach Place, is a 6,886-seat multi-purpose arena, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. It replaced Kelowna Memorial Arena, which is still in use for minor hockey. Opened in 1999, it is home to the Kelowna Rockets hockey club. The arena hosted the Memorial Cup in 2004.

Generally, Kelowna is the transition zone between the drier south and the wetter north. The Okanagan north of Kelowna has a humid continental climate (Köppen: Dfb) with warm, sometimes hot summers and cold winters with highs around freezing, though mild by Canadian standards. Precipitation is well distributed year round.
