The origins of the name "Arayat" are multifaceted and have evolved over time. The earliest mention of the mountain's name appears in a 1696 travel diary by Gemelli Careri, where it is noted that the natives referred to the mountain as "Bondo Kalaya," later becoming "Bondoc Alaya" (literally "Mount Alaya"). This eventually transformed into "Arayat."
