Pistosaurus longaevus skull (cast) Pistosaurus (exact etymology uncertain [1]) is an extinct genus of aquatic sauropterygian reptile closely related to plesiosaurs. Fossils have been found in France and Germany, and date to the Middle Triassic. It contains a single species, Pistosaurus longaevus.

The Tritylodon fossils in South Africa are found concentrated mainly in an area about 11,000 km 2 (4,250 mi 2). They have been found in floodplain deposits of the Lower Jurassic Elliot Formation (upper Karoo Supergroup). [4]
