Moncton Skyline (2006) The City of Moncton and its metropolitan area (Dieppe and Riverview) is the largest in New Brunswick, Canada.Its skyline is dominated by the Bell Aliant Tower, constructed in 1971 at a height of 127 m (417 ft - Equiv. to approx. 32 floors), the tallest free-standing structure in all four Atlantic provinces.
The building has the most levels of any building in New Brunswick at 20. In 1970 the City of Moncton approved the building. At that time NBTel realized the building would be high enough to block radio signals coming from the 135 ft (41 m) tower they had at that time in downtown Moncton .
Moncton lies in southeastern New Brunswick, at the geographic centre of the Maritime Provinces. The city is along the north bank of the Petitcodiac River at a point where the river bends acutely from west−east to north−south flow. This geographical feature has contributed significantly to historical names for the community.
The main destinations for shopping in Greater Moncton are the Northwest Centre, and the Wheeler Park Power Centre in Moncton, and Champlain Place in Dieppe, which, at 816,000 square feet (75,800 m 2), [13] is the largest shopping mall in Atlantic Canada and has over 160 stores and services.
