In Alta California (now known as California) and Baja California, ranchos were concessions and land grants made by the Spanish and Mexican governments from 1775 [1] to 1846.
It has also been known as the Manchester Rancheria Roundhouse and was established around 1905. [2] It is the largest and perhaps the only surviving building with significant association to the religious life of Native Americans in the area of Point Arena, California. It is a Pomo Indian dancehouse, where religious ceremonies were held.
The 5,272-acre (2,134 ha) site was established as a California state park in 1955 and takes its name from Manchester, California, seven miles north of Point Arena. [2] Aside from the coastal views, Manchester State Beach consists of grazing lands with flocks of sheep, and herds of cattle.
