Idle speed, sometimes simply called "idle", is the rotational speed an engine runs at when the engine is idling, that is when the engine is uncoupled from the drivetrain and the throttle pedal is not depressed. In combustion engines, idle speed is generally measured in revolutions per minute (rpm) of the crankshaft.
An idle air control actuator or idle air control valve (IAC actuator/valve) is a device commonly used in fuel-injected vehicles to control the engine's idling rotational speed . [1] In carburetted vehicles a similar device known as an idle speed control actuator is used.
The idle circuit is generally activated by vacuum near the (near closed) throttle plate, where the air speed increases to cause a low-pressure area in the idle passage/port, thus causing fuel to flow through the idle jet. The idle jet is set at some constant value by the carburetor manufacturer, thus flowing a specified amount of fuel.
The acme nut/jack screw assembly, which adjusted the pitch of the horizontal stabilizer, failed. As a result, the pilots lost control of aircraft pitch, and the flight crashed into the Pacific Ocean killing all 5 crew and 83 passengers on board. Northwest Airlines Flight 85, a Boeing 747-400, on 9 October 2002.
Long-term liveaboard sailors Bill & Laurel Cooper installed three Perkins 4.236 engines with three screws and stern gear into their 88' schooner-rigged Dutch barge, Hosanna. Having three engines (using just one on a calm canal, but engaging the other two in fast rivers or for manoeuvering) was still cheaper than having an equivalent single ...
The contact breaker is operated by an engine-driven cam.On an engine with a distributor, the contact breaker can be found beneath the distributor cap.The position of the contact breaker is set so that it opens (and hence generates a spark) at exactly the optimum moment to ignite the fuel/air mixture.
A takeoff/go-around switch (TO/GA or TOGA; / ˈ t oʊ ɡ ə /) is a switch on the autothrottle of modern large aircraft, with two modes: takeoff (TO) and go-around (GA). The mode is dependent on the phase of flight; usually, on approach to land, the autopilot will be set to approach mode, therefore if the TO/GA switch is pressed it will activate the go-around mode of the autothrottle (about 90 ...
Many VAF sensors have an air-fuel adjustment screw, which opens or closes a small air passage on the side of the VAF sensor. This screw controls the air-fuel mixture by letting a metered amount of air flow past the air flap, thereby leaning or richening the mixture.
