By the end of 2022 the Ohio to Erie Trail will have over 90% dedicated bike trails and 3.6% streets and 5.9% rural roads. Of the remaining 31 miles of off trail riding 17 of those miles are on the Fredericksburg to Dalton road section through the scenic Amish countryside.
U.S. Bicycle Route 410 is an alternate route to USBR 10 in Idaho, traveling on the south side of the Pend Oreille River between Oldtown and Sandpoint for 50 miles (80 km). It follows U.S. Bicycle Route 210 for most of its length, with the exception of a 17.4-mile-long (28.0 km) stretch that follows the river to avoid U.S. Route 95 .
The Adventure Cycling Route Network consists of mostly rural bicycle routes varying in length from loops of a few hundred miles to coast-to-coast routes of more than 4,000 miles. The routes eschew high-traffic roads and big cities for rural two-lane highways and small towns.

In May 2019, AASHTO approved the northern segment through Kentucky, [9] which was extended in May 2021 through Ohio to its northern terminus in Cleveland. [10]
