Sancerre is a French wine Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for wine produced in the area of Sancerre in the eastern part of the Loire valley, southeast of Orléans. Sancerre is highly regarded for and primarily associated with white wine made from the Sauvignon blanc grape. [ 1 ]
Sancerre (French pronunciation: ⓘ) is a medieval hilltop town and commune in the department of Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France, overlooking the river Loire.It is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France) Association, noted for its wine and for inventing Crottin de Chavignol Cheese.
The Loire Valley wine region includes the French wine regions situated along the river Loire from the Muscadet region near the city of Nantes on the Atlantic coast to the region of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé just southeast of the city of Orléans in north central France.
Wines grown here are white made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, red and rose made from Pinot Noir. [3] The well-known Sancerre AOC is its immediate north-eastern neighbor.
