Weslaco High School is a four-year public secondary school the Weslaco Independent School District in Weslaco, Texas. It was founded in 1921, the same year that the school district was established after successful petitioning to separate from nearby city Donna and their district. [ 3 ]
The district serves the city of Weslaco, a western portion of the city of Mercedes, [1] and several unincorporated communities in Hidalgo County. In 2002, Weslaco East earned the TEA "Recognized School" rating for a Weslaco, Texas High School and for the two years after that. [3] Weslaco East then added an 11th grade class in the 2002-03 school year and a 12th grade class the following year. In the 2003-2004 school year, Weslaco East had its first class of graduating seniors. [4]

Lackey was a standout athlete at Weslaco High School where he was an all-American in football, all-state in basketball, and all-district in baseball. He helped Weslaco make four straight playoff appearances, including a trip to the state semi-finals in 1955, and he was good enough at baseball to attract the attention of scouts.

Harlon Block was expelled in his freshman year when he refused to tell the principal which student had vandalized the school. Block then transferred to Weslaco High School and was remembered as an outgoing student with many friends. A natural athlete, Block led the Weslaco Panther Football Team to the Conference Championship.
