The Lakes is a 2-square-mile (5.2 km 2) planned community located within the city limits of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is located in the western part of the Las Vegas Valley near the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The centerpiece of the community, and its namesake, is a large man-made lake, Lake Sahara.

By 1965 the resort was finally purchased for $750,000 by the city to become a city park. The remaining motel buildings and the two lakes give us an important glimpse of Las Vegas's past. In 2013 the City of Las Vegas re-opened Lorenzi Park after a $30 million upgrade. The lake has been completely redone and reverted to its Twin Lake configuration.
