Politics of Luxembourg. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is divided into cantons, which group the communes (=municipalities). A dozen of the communes have official city status, and one, Luxembourg City, is further divided into quarters (unofficial subdivision). The Administrative divisions, coloured and coded according to canton and commune.
The subsequent administrative reorganisation divided Luxembourg into 32 cantons, grouped into five arrondissements: Marche, Saint-Hubert, Neufchâteau, Diekirch, and Luxembourg. [2] By royal decree of 2 January 1832, arrondissements were reduced in size, but their number increased from 5 to 8. [2] They were now named quarters, and later, districts.
