The United Farm Workers of America, or more commonly just United Farm Workers (UFW), is a labor union for farmworkers in the United States. It originated from the merger of two workers' rights organizations, the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) led by César Chávez, Dolores Huerta, and Gilbert Padilla and the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) led by organizer Larry Itliong.

FLOC was founded in Toledo, Ohio, in 1967 by Baldemar Velasquez. [1] A migrant worker who had worked in the fields since he was six years old, Velasquez led his first strike at the age of 12. [ 2 ] By the time he was 20 years old and a college student, Velasquez had already faced numerous beatings and arrests.
In 1973, Padilla was elected secretary-treasurer of the newly-formed UFW. [4] However, Chavez became increasingly paranoid and controlling and began to purge the union of those who he felt were Communists or secretly plotted against him.
