The TESSYS method (transforaminal endoscopic surgical system) is a minimally-invasive, endoscopic spinal procedure for the treatment of a herniated disc.It was a further development of the YESS method by the Dutch Dr Thomas Hoogland in the Alpha Klinik in Munich in 1989 and was first called THESSYS (Thomas Hoogland EndoScopic SYStem).

As reverse shoulder replacement has become more popular, the indications have expanded to include shoulder “pseudoparalysis” due to massive rotator cuff tears, shoulder fractures, severe bone loss on the scapula or humerus precluding the use of standard implants and failed prior shoulder replacement procedures. The original technique was first described by Eden [4] in 1924 and verified by Lange in the 1950s. [5] [6] The rhomboid major and rhomboid minor were transferred laterally from the medial border of the scapula to the infraspinatous fossa, and the levator scapulae was transferred laterally to the spine of the scapula, near the acromion.
