Klaus returns to Alaric's apartment where Maddox (Gino Anthony Pesi) tells him that Bonnie cannot use all that power without killing herself and advises Klaus to provoke her to use that power. Stefan "teams" up with Klaus in order to find the possible cure, so that Stefan can give Elena the choice of becoming human again. Unfortunately, Klaus needs the vampire hunter Connor to stay alive because he holds the map to the cure in his tattoo, and Stefan must keep him alive at all costs when everyone else wants him dead.
The deal was to stay and help with Klaus but one of them, Damon or Stefan, had to die and she chose to save Stefan. Stefan informs Bonnie ( Kat Graham ) and Jeremy ( Steven R. McQueen ) about Katherine and asks Bonnie if she can talk to the Martins and make them work with them.
Damon returns to help battle the vampire only to be continually defeated. Just as Klaus is gloating over his victories hundreds of dead civil war soldiers rise from the grave led by Elena to drag Klaus to the underworld. Elena is resurrected and with seemingly every enemy vanquished, the cast leaves successful in their conquests.
Klaus blames Damon for all of the failed attempts at making Jeremy complete the hunters mark. Damon informs Klaus that he could have Jeremy wanting to kill Elena every time he saw her. Klaus taunts Damon saying that there has to be an explanation for Elena overlooking all of the horrible things that Damon has done to her and the people she loves.
