Piqua (/ ˈ p ɪ k w ə / PIK-wə [4]) is a city in Miami County, Ohio, United States, along the Great Miami River. The population was 20,354 at the 2020 census . Located 27 miles (43 km) north of Dayton , it is part of the Dayton metropolitan area .
Located in the northern part of the county, it borders the following townships: Orange Township, Shelby County – north; Brown Township – east; Lostcreek Township – southeast corner; Staunton Township – south; Washington Township – west; Much of western Springcreek Township is occupied by the city of Piqua.

The southern portion of the community was once known as Mount Jefferson , according to vintage road maps of the county before consolidation in the 1950s.
