Hanging Rock State Park is a 9,011-acre (3,647 ha) [1] North Carolina state park in Stokes County, North Carolina in the United States. The park is 30 miles (48 km) north of Winston-Salem and is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) from Danbury in Stokes County .
The State Trail is planned as a combination hiking trail and paddle trail along the Deep River, from Jamestown to its confluence with the Cape Fear River. The park and trail were established by the General Assembly on August 2, 2007. The first land acquisition for the park is known as the "Justice Lands", which are near Jordan Lake.

The trail is a part of the North Carolina State Trails System, which is a section of NCDPR and, by January 2019, 669 miles (1,077 km) of trail had been designated as a part of the MST by NCDPR. [ 2 ] The segments of MST along the Blue Ridge Parkway were designated as a National Recreation Trail in 2005.

The Grassy Ridge Trail follows along the mountain's base, connecting the lower ends of the Mountain and Grindstone Trails together. The Grassy Ridge Trail also connects to the Corridor Trail, which goes to the park's river section, and it connects to the Mountains-to-Sea and Sauratown Trails, which go to Hanging Rock State Park.
