On January 1, 1973, the Justice of the Peace Courts, Criminal Court of Record, Circuit Court, Metropolitan Court are all merged into the County Court or Circuit Court. In 1974, the North Dade Detention Center was opened. The master plan was to begin the planning and construction of jails in local communities to service the local population.
