In general, styles for tables and other block-level elements should be set using CSS classes, not with inline style attributes. This is because the site-wide CSS is more carefully tested to ensure compatibility with a wide range of browsers; it also creates a greater degree of professionalism by ensuring a consistent appearance between articles.
The easiest way to insert a new table is to use the editing toolbar that appears when you edit a page (see image above). Clicking the button will open a dialog where you define what you want in your new table. Once you've chosen the number of rows and columns, the wiki markup text for the table is inserted into the article.
For years in HTML, a table has always forced an implicit line-wrap (or line-break). So, to keep a table within a line, the workaround is to put the whole line into a table, then embed a table within a table, using the outer table to force the whole line to stay together. Consider the following examples: Wikicode (showing table forces line-break)
In addition, it is usually possible to add or import a table that exists elsewhere (e.g., in a spreadsheet, on another website) directly into the visual editor by: dragging and dropping a .csv file into the visual editor, or; selecting, copying, and pasting the table into the visual editor.
An FO table functions much like an HTML/CSS table. The user specifies rows of data for each individual cell. The user can, also, specify some styling information for each column, such as background color. Additionally, the user can specify the first row as a table header row, with its own separate styling information.
This will allow you to type text that you want to add, using wiki markup to format the text and to add other elements like images and tables that are explained later in this tutorial. Wiki markup can initially seem intimidating (especially references) but it actually requires only a few rules to understand and use.
Headings are styled through CSS and add an [edit] link. See this section for the relevant CSS. Four or more headings cause a table of contents to be generated automatically. Do not use any markup after the final heading markup – this will either break the heading, or will cause the heading to not be included in an edit summary.
Open your document in Word, and "save as" an HTML file. Open the HTML file in a text editor and copy the HTML source code to the clipboard. Paste the HTML source into the large text box labeled "HTML markup:" on the html to wiki page. Click the blue Convert button at the bottom of the page.
