The Sherwood post office closed on December 4, 1866. The nearby Newstead post office, which was established in early 1867, was transferred here and took over the Sherwood name on April 16, 1868. The Michigan Central Railroad built a line through the community in 1871. Sherwood incorporated as a village in 1887. [7]

Sherwood Forest is a neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan. The neighborhood is bounded by Seven Mile Road , Livernois, Pembroke, and Parkside. [ 1 ] The community, with about 435 houses, consists of two subdivisions: Sherwood Forest and Sherwood Forest Manor.
Carl E. Schmidt was a tanner with a successful Detroit business; he was also a close friend and political advisor to Hazen Pingree, who served as both mayor of Detroit and governor of Michigan.
