The Somali Region (Somali: Deegaanka Soomaalida, Amharic: ሱማሌ ክልል, romanized: Sumalē Kilil, Oromo: Naannoo somaalee, Arabic: المنطقة الصومالية), also known as Soomaali Galbeed (lit. ' Western Somalia ') [3] and officially the Somali Regional State, is a regional state in eastern Ethiopia.

Puntland is a federal state in the northeast of Somalia. Galmudug is a federal state in central Somalia. Jubaland is a federal state in the south of Somalia. [2] In November 2014, the South West State of Somalia was established. [3] Hirshabelle State was formed in October 2016. [4] Khatumo State in the north central region was recognized in 2023.

Afder (Somali: Afdheer) is one of the eleven Zones of the Somali Region of Ethiopia.Afder is bordered on the southwest by the Ganale Dorya River which separates it from the Liben Zone, on the west by the Oromia Region, on the north by Nogob Zone, on the northeast by Shabele Zone, and on south by the Somalia federal states of Hirshabelle, South West and Jubaland.
