The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public research university with campuses near Vancouver and Kelowna, in British Columbia, Canada.With an annual research budget of $893 million, UBC funds 9,992 projects annually in various fields of study within the industrial sector, as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations.

There are few through streets on campus as both Main Mall and University Boulevard are largely pedestrian streets, bisecting the campus in both the east–west and north–south directions.

Born in 1962, Santa Ono is the son of mathematician Takashi Ono, who immigrated to the United States from Japan in the late 1950s.Ono was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where his father worked as an assistant professor of mathematics at the University of British Columbia from 1961 to 1964.
She was appointed as a Lecturer in Archaeology at the University of York in 2014 [4] where she led the ancient genetics group at BioArCh until 2018, when she moved to the Department of Anthropology at UBC. She currently directs research in the Ancient DNA and Proteins (ADαPT) Facility located within the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.
