The longest trail in the park is the Wildwood Trail, of which about 27 miles (43 km) is in Forest Park and about 3 miles (4.8 km) in Washington Park. [6] It is also the longest section of the 40-Mile Loop, a trail network of roughly 150 miles (240 km) reaching many parts of the Portland metropolitan area. [ 62 ]
The 40-Mile Loop is a partially completed greenway trail around and through Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon.It was proposed in 1903 by the Olmsted Brothers architecture firm as part of the development of Forest Park.
Major trailheads are located along the trail identified by an OC&E State Trail railroad sign, including Crosby Street in Klamath Falls, Wiard Park, Oregon Route 39, Reeder Road, Switchbacks, Bly and Horse Glades. The A Canal trail runs from Esplanade Avenue to Homedale Road and intersects the OC&E trail near Summers Lane and Boardman Avenue.

The trail was envisioned in 1959 by Samuel N. Dicken, a University of Oregon geography professor, approved in 1971 by the Oregon Recreation Trails Advisory Council and developed and managed by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department as part of the state park system of Oregon. [1] The official coastal guide gives a length of 382 miles (615 km).
The Banks–Vernonia State Trail is a paved rail trail and state park in northwest Oregon in the United States. It runs for 21 miles (34 km), primarily north–south, between the towns of Vernonia in Columbia County and Banks in Washington County on an abandoned railroad bed. [2] Banks is about 25 miles (40 km) west of Portland.
