The Calcasieu Lumber Company began operating in 1884 [7] and became the Bradley-Ramsey Lumber Company in 1886. On March 16, 1906, Long-Bell Lumber Company purchased the Bradley-Ramsey Lumber Company, that included two sawmills, 105,000 acres of timberlands, the Lake Charles and Leesville Railroad, and the Lake Charles Chemical Company.
In 1854, the Kansas Territory was organized, then in 1861 Kansas became the 34th U.S. state. In 1867, McPherson County was founded. It was founded in 1887 as Aiken. [citation needed] It was renamed Inman, in 1889, after Major Henry Inman, [4] who was first the namesake for Lake Inman, located approximately 4 miles (6 km) east of the town. [5]
The company eventually adopted the Payless Cashways name, but new locations were added using Furrow's due to trademark issues in Texas, Oregon, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, California, and Indiana. (For example, in Indiana, Payless was a grocery chain). By 1981, the company was the 5th largest in the industry.

Mack Barnabas Nelson was born in Arkansas in 1872. He came to Kansas City in 1894, where he worked for the Long-Bell Lumber Company.At the time of construction, Nelson was vice president of the lumber company, but he later came to the top position in the company after Long suffered financial reverses early in the Great Depression.
Handy Andy Home Improvement Centers was founded as Arrow Lumber Company by Joseph Rashkow in 1947 on the south side of Chicago. His son, Ronald Rashkow, bought out the single store operation in 1967 from his father. He converted the company to Handy Andy in 1971 with its first expansion unit. [1]
